Cook book and cooking magazine reviews

A previous IACP Cookbook Award finalist (http://www.readersread.com/awards/iacp.htm) The Italian American Cookbook by John and Galina Mariani does a fantastic job of walking readers first through the history of Italian American cooking, a glossary of terms, and Italian wines.

The authors include staples of Italian American cooking.  I have cooked over half the recipes in this book, but my favorite recipes are:  stuffed artichokes, vegetable barley soup, farfelle with walnut sauce, baked mac and cheese, St. Louis toasted ravioli, ravioli with fresh pea sauce, ravioli with acorn squash sauce, pesto risotto, and a basic biscotti recipe.
Recommend to anyone serious about Italian American cooking.

It's like the title says, how to cook everything.  Mr. Bittman does a great job with this book.  There are newer additions available on Amazon.  My favorites would be hummus, guacamole, mushroom barley soup, split pea soup, lentil soup, Dairy based pasta sauces, rissotos, whole fish cooking, pie crusts, egg basics, and a fantastic glossary.

Anyone that has read my blog for more than five minutes can gather that I adore bon appetit cooking magazine.  I started getting this magazine in Chicago in 2003 and I have been hooked ever since.  I cook at LEAST 1 recipe per month, and so far I have not been steared wrong.  I usually follow the recipe at first, and then modify as I go.  Additionally, they have a great website with recipes and product tips which is fantastic.  http://www.bonappetit.com/

Highly recommend for cooks at all levels.
