 It's Grits
R.S. Woodward

How do you like your grits?

I didn't know how I would like this documentary, but I really did enjoy the 45-60 minutes or so. The film is 30 years old, but still relevant.  It was an informative piece on Southern culture. Grits really are a common thread that bind all Southerns together. Although grits will always be a Southern dish, as grits become more mainstream in American cooking they may be a talking point for all Americans.

This film might be hard to find outside of the South, so below is a quick clip, from the filmmaker's website:

Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead
Joe Cross
This was the film that inspired my 15 day fruit and vegetable fast in January, all of the yummy recipes, and essentially this blog came out of that, too.

I can say that I was craving spinach the other day on the way home from work, and I just can't get enough apples and avacados.  I'm eating more fruits and vegetables than I was on a daily basis, which is really positive.  The best part is only high quality foods taste good now.  I had a burger from McD's quick on the way to Baltimore and it was disgusting.  I'm back eating cheese/butter again (but no other dairy) and smaller portions satisfy my cravings.

If you have not watched this film, it tracks Joe and Phil's journies with juice fasting.  If you want to be inspired, just watch this film.  Phil's journey really made me tear up.  He had to work so hard!

Note that before starting any new diet you should see a medical doctor.  Additionally, Joe and Phil made their HOMEMADE juice from organic produce, consuming mass quantities of fruits and vegetables.  This is not the same thing as buy some crap sugar drenched orange juice from the store- DO NOT DO THAT.  It will likely make you sicker.
